Finding Balance
Dealing with change is inevitable. Moving halfway around the world, starting a new home, returning to a desk job, and the onset of debilitating shoulder pain made me stop and take a hard look at my work-life-family balance. I’d let my health slide and put my personal dreams on the back burner. Reaching out to my local wellness community helped me with those first steps to restore balance, get my well-being back on track, and regain focus.

Sharing my journey, I hope to encourage others to seek balance if life, make simple healthy lifestyle choices, and to not to lose sight of our dreams.
Wellness Community. I was looking for wellness and holistic services on Hatteras Island. I figured, if I was looking for it, then others may be needing it too. So I created Hatteras Island Wellness Connection, a social media group to help put you in touch with local practioners, classes, and events.
Live Well Journal. I started a journal to keep wellness notes, jot down my endless to-do list, and scribble down my thoughts. This became a “monthy welcome” which I shared with the Hatteras Island Wellness Connection, and eventurally it became WellVentura, my travel and wellness blog. Imperfect progress success!
Breathwork. I completed a breathwork and meditation course to calm my ‘monkey mind,’ regain focus, and support my personal yoga practice. I wrote Breathwork 1-2-3 as a free and simple guide to introduce breathwork practices and share its healing benefits with others.
Hatteras Escape. I’m writing a free travel guide so everyone can plan their own wellness escape to Hatteras Island and create an itinerary filled with local experiences.
Wellness Planning and Events. The local wellness community have made wellness programs accessible to more residents and visitors on Hatteras Island. Retreat hosts choosing Hatteras Island as a destination can also benefit from planning and event services offered by the local wellness community, and make the most of local experiences available.
Escape Haven Wellness Retreats. I reached out to my friend and the founder of Escape Haven, where I worked as a retreat leader in Bali many years ago. I joined a cohort of retreat planners, worked through their retreat blueprint best practices and embarked on a market feasibility study.
