June Welcome – Live Well, Travel Well, and Breathe Hatteras Island
Exploring destinations to mini staycations
Summer vacation time is here, and we all deserve to take a break! It is also a great time to try new things and not let your wellness take a back seat. Plan on including healthy and mindful activities in your vacation week. With longer days and warmer weather, make the most of being outdoors and being active; eat plenty of seasonal fruit and fresh vegetables; stay hydrated, and don’t forget to wear sunscreen!
It’s also a time to relax, connect with family and friends, explore Hatteras Island’s nature reserves and beaches, visit historical sites, enjoy local tours, activities, and watersports, experience local hospitality and culture, and let go a little to indulge in delicious food or a few drinks.
The trick is: don’t overdo it and leave feeling like you need another vacation to recover from your trip. If you are here as a group, make sure you split up the responsibilities so everyone can enjoy some time off—mom included! Schedule or gift some ‘me’ time to those busy people who find it hard to let go. Step out to a yoga class, book a massage, or have a wellness service come to you; with private group bookings, everyone can get involved.
Plan your visit at Cape Hatteras National Seashore with ranger-led summer nature programs, or sign up with local tour operators for fishing trips and private charters, sailing adventures, kayak tours, horseback riding, kiteboarding, surf camps, and much more.
For those living on the island, taking time out to recharge your batteries will help you get through the busy summer and avoid burnout. Stay connected with your local community for local support, wellness services, and fitness classes. Enjoy what Hatteras Island has to offer and plan a ‘staycation’ on your days off, or find your secret spot where you know you can get away from it all!
